Effective at 12:00 PM (Noon) Pacific Time on Thursday, May 21, 2026, Category 3 open fires will be prohibited throughout the Southeast Fire Centre, including the Greenwood area.
A Category 3 open fire includes:
▪️ Burning material in 3 or more piles at the same time
▪️ Any pile larger than 2 metres high or 3 metres wide
▪️ Windrows up to 200 metres long and 15 metres wide
▪️ Burning stubble or grass over 0.2 hectares (2,000 m²)
The following are also prohibited:
▪️ Air curtain burners
▪️ Carbonizers
⚠️ While Category 1 campfires and Category 2 open fires are not currently prohibited, conditions remain dry and caution is extremely important with any outdoor burning activity.
Residents are encouraged to stay informed and practice safe burning habits to help reduce wildfire risk in our community.
