What is the Beautification Grant Program?
The City of Greenwood’s Development Permit Area (DPA) Beautification Grant Program provides financial support to property owners, business tenants, and non‑profit organizations who want to improve the appearance of buildings and public‑facing spaces in Greenwood’s downtown core.
The program helps enhance Greenwood’s heritage character, strengthen the visitor experience, and support local economic development. It is a key action under the Tourism Strategy Phase 2.
How Much Funding is Available?
The City offers:

Up to 50% of eligible project costs,

To a maximum of $2,000 per property,

With $10,000.00 available annually for the entire program.
Funding is available upon recommendation from the Tourism Committee and approval by the City of Greenwood’s Mayor and Council until the annual budget is fully allocated.
Who Can Apply?
You are eligible if:

Your property is located within the Development Permit Area (DPA)
-
You are a property owner, business tenant (with owner permission), or non‑profit organization
-
Your project has not yet started
-
You are in good standing with the City (no outstanding taxes or bylaw issues)
What Types of Projects Are Eligible?
The program supports exterior improvements that enhance Greenwood’s appearance and heritage character, including:
Façade Improvements

Painting and refinishing
-
Restoring heritage features
-
Replacing windows, doors, trim, or cladding
Signage & Lighting

New or upgraded business signage
-
Heritage‑style lighting
-
Removal of outdated or non‑compliant signage
Landscaping & Public Realm Enhancements

Planters, hanging baskets, and decorative landscaping
-
Benches or seating areas
-
Accessibility improvements (ramps, handrails, entrances)
Other Eligible Projects

Murals or public art
-
Façade cleaning, brickwork repair, graffiti removal
What Projects Are Not Eligible?

Interior renovations
-
Routine maintenance (minor painting, cleaning)

Roof replacement
-
New building construction
-
Temporary or portable features
-
Work started before grant approval

Work required solely due to bylaw enforcement

Gather your concept, design sketches, quotes, and photos of the existing building.
Complete the Application Form
Submit your completed application and attachments to:

The Tourism Committee with City staff support will review your application for eligibility and alignment with DPA guidelines.
Council approves all grants by resolution.
You have 12 months to complete your project.
Reimbursement:
After completion, submit:

Staff will inspect the project and issue reimbursement.
