(Gulley Block and McArthur Center c. 1902) Built in 1902 as a dry goods store McArthur Center was taken over in 1916 by T. M. Gulley a furnature merchant and mortician. The building then stood empty for many years, becoming a living quarters for Japanese Canadians in the 1942 Internment known as the #-3 Building. After WW-II the building became greenwood's community center and was named after longtime Mayor W.E. McArthur Sr. It currently houses the Greenwood Community Association, Greenwood Public library and the Royal Canadian Legion branch #-155 and the kettle River Art club. On the Library window you will see "Amity Harbor Library" a remnant from the filming of Snow Falling on the Cedars. |
