FIRST RESPONDERS

The First Responder Program was created in July of 1989. Its primary objective is to improve the continuity of patient care provided throughout the province for pre-hospital emergencies. By recognizing Police and Fire Department personnel are often available to assist patients prior to the arrival of the B.C. Ambulance crew, first responders are trained with the knowledge and capabilities to deal with critical situations involving airways/breathing and/or circulation concerns until higher levels of help can take over.
Even when the FR is only able to comfort the patient and record initial finding, a difference can be observed. There are over 7,000 First responders registered throughout the province of British Columbia. We believe the program is a vital asset to any community. Therefore the Greenwood Volunteer Fire Department had decided to start the program in ours. Ten members of the GVFD have successfully completed the Level III FR training program. (Picture To Come!)
However some of the supplies and equipment needed are costly. We are also hoping to purchase a FR Rescue Vehicle in the near future. The Greenwood Volunteer Fire Department would like your help in raising some of the funding needed to purchase the necessary equipment.
